STRASBURG SHARP IN REHAB START

VA.» Nationals WOODBRIDGE, right-hander Stephen Strasburg struck out five and allowed three hits and a walk in a rehab start for Class A Potomac.

Facing the Salem Red Sox, Strasburg showcased good command of his fastball and good movement on his curveball as he allowed one earned run.

Strasburg has been on the disabled list with a nerve impingemen­t in his right elbow since July 27. He left two innings into his last start on July 23 at Arizona and has been working to get back since.

Astros lose another catcher.

The Astros placed catcher Brian McCann on the disabled list with a sore right knee.

The Astros were already missing catcher Evan Gattis, who has been on the disabled list with a concussion sustained when he was hit on the head by a backswing last Thursday.

The Astros acquired reliever Tyler Clippard from the White Sox for a player to be named or cash considerat­ions.

Clippard was traded from the Yankees to Chicago in a sevenplaye­r deal on July 18. The 32year-old right-hander went 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA and two saves in 11 appearance­s with the rebuilding White Sox.

Mets continue cutting payroll.

The Mets saved $3 million by trading infielder Neil Walker the Brewers and have cut payroll by more than $11.6 million in recent weeks. New York saved $3,765,027 when it dealt outfielder Jay Bruce to Cleveland.

Judge signs deal with Fanatics.

Aaron Judge signed a long-term deal with Fanatics.

On its website, Fanatics is selling 8-by-10-inch photos with Judge’s signature for $350. A signed Yankees hat is $400, a signed batting helmet is $500, a signed bat is $600 and a signed replica jersey is $650.
