MORELAND DELIVERS TO HELP SOX BEAT YANKS

BOSTON» Pinch-hitter Mitch Moreland hit a two-run single in Boston’s four-run seventh inning and the Red Sox rallied to beat the Yankees 9-6 on Friday night.

Boston won for the 13th time in 15 games to extend its lead in the AL East to five games over the second-place Yankees. New York snapped a four-game winning streak.

Addison Reed (1-1) got five outs, striking out three. Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 29th save.

The Red Sox opened a 3-0 lead on homers from Rafael Devers and Christian Vazquez. But Todd Frazier hit a two-run homer in the sixth, then New York scored four in the seventh to take a 6-3 lead.

Boston loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh against Tommy Kahnle (2-4). Mookie Betts had a sacrifice fly and Andrew Benintendi an RBI single. After Hanley Ramirez walked to load the bases again, Moreland’s single made it 7-6.

Jackie Bradley Jr. added a two-run single in the eighth.

The Cardinals, whose lead reached 11-3 in the eighth inning, have taken the first two games of a four-game series against the Pirates to remain 1½ games behind the National League Central-leading Cubs. … Manny Machado capped a three-homer night with a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Orioles rallied past the Angels 9-7 … Chris Taylor had four hits including a pair of doubles, and the Dodgers welcomed Adrian Gonzalez back from the disabled list with another win, beating the Tigers 8-5. … Nelson Cruz hit two doubles and his 30th home run Friday night and Erasmo Ramirez won his first game for the Mariners since April 1, 2014, a 7-1 victory over the Rays. Cruz’s home run was measured by MLB Statcast at 482 feet, the longest in Tropicana Field history. … Jake Arrieta pitched into the seventh inning and allowed a run, Javier Baez homered and drove in three runs, and the Cubs beat the Blue Jays 7-4. … Cincinnati hit three home runs in the sixth, including a two-run shot by Adam Duvall, Sal Romano threw seven strong innings and the Reds beat R.A. Dickey and the Braves 5-3. … Dallas Keuchel threw seven shutout innings, Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve homered and the Astros beat the Athletics 3-1. … Nicky Delmonico lined an inside-the-park home run in the eighth inning, his second go-ahead homer of the game, and the White Sox stopped a fivegame losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Rangers. … Corey Kluber put together another Cy Young-worthy performanc­e before leaving with a sprained right ankle Friday night, and Jay Bruce homered twice to help the Indians rout the Royals 10-1. … Miguel Sano hit two of the Twins’ season-high-tying six home runs, including an inside-the-park dash by Byron Buxton, and Minnesota powered past the Diamondbac­ks 10-3. … J.T.
