VILLAGE VOICE ENDS 62-YEAR PRINT RUN
The Village Voice, the alt-weekly that once set the tone for cultural criticism while pursuing a muckraking mission through the halls of power in New York, is ending its print run after 62 years on the newsstand, its publisher announced Tuesday.
The paper—which has been distributed for free in New York City since 1996 and passed through several ownership structures over the past decade—will continue to publish online and produce events, said publisher Peter Barbey, who acquired the paper in 2015. “For more than 60 years, The Village Voice brand has played an outsized role in American journalism, politics, and culture,” Barbey said in a statement. “I expect it to continue to be that and much, much more.”

The state-owned IRAN newspaper quoted Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi on Tuesday as saying Twitter has “officially announced readiness to talk with Iran for resolving the problems.” San Francisco-based Twitter did not respond to a request for comment.
McDonald’s to close 169 outlets in India. DELHI» McDonald’s India NEW has announced it will close 169 McDonald’s outlets in northern and eastern India after the American fast food giant decided to terminate a franchise agreement. McDonald’s said its Indian partner Connaught Plaza Restaurants violated the terms of the franchise agreement, including reneging on the payment of royalties.
Appeals court sides with Sierra Club on pipeline. WASHINGTON» A federal appeals court in Washington says energy regulators fell short in evaluating the environmental impact of a natural gas pipeline that is carrying gas through Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The court on Tuesday agreed with the Sierra Club in ruling that officials fell short in their environmental study of the Southeast Market Pipelines Project. Sierra Club attorney Elly Benson says the group is discussing its next steps.
Walker touts Foxconn plant again. WIS.» Gov.
