BECKHAM COULD MISS START OF HIS SEASON AT DALLAS

- — The Associated Press

Odell Beckham Jr.’s ankle injury could potentially keep the Giants rewide ceiver out of the season opener against the Cowboys, sources told ESPN’s Jordan Raanan and Dan Graziano.

The Giants open their season on the road Sept. 10.

Beckham sprained his ankle Monday night against the Browns. An X-ray during the game was negative. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday that confirmed the three-time Pro Bowler has a sprained ankle.

Coach Ben McAdoo said Tuesday Beckham and receiver Brandon Marshall, who hurt his shoulder in Monday’s game, are being listed as day to day.

X-rays on Marshall’s shoulder also were negative, and the team would also see how he responds to treatment, the coach said. It was not clear immediately how Marshall was injured.

Hospital backs employees.

The hospital system employing two recently fired Saints team physicians said its review of the doctors’ work yielded no evidence of an unusual diagnosis or a “misdiagnosis.”

Ochsner Health system said the review came after the Saints removed orthopedic surgeons Deryk Jones and Misty Suri from the team’s medical staff last week.

Coach Sean Payton has said the decision came after cornerback Delvin Breaux learned he needed surgery to repair a fibula fracture that was initially diagnosed as a bone bruise.

A statement by Ochsner CEO Warner Thomas and chief medical officer Robert Hart said “it is not uncommon for stress-related fractures to be unnoticeable in initial imaging,” and that “follow-up diagnostics are always required when a patient doesn’t show appropriate clinical progress.”

Jets’ Forte a full participant.

Matt Forte’s hamstring is feeling healthy and he’s ready for some game action.

The Jets running back practiced fully for the first time in more than three weeks after a hamstring injury and insists he’ll be ready to play in the regularseason opener.

Three Patriots return.

Linebacker Dont’a Hightower was one of three key players to return to practice as the Patriots prepared to head to Detroit for their third preseason game.

Starting left tackle Nate Solder and running back Mike Gillislee also were back on the field after missing time with injuries.

Chargers center gone 4 games.

Chargers center Max Tuerk was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the regular season, which includes the Sept. 11 opener at Denver, for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Tuerk won’t be eligible to return to the Chargers’ active roster until Oct. 2.
