RESCUED DOGS ARE UP FOR ADOPTION

A Denver woman faces animal-cruelty charges after dozens of dogs were rescued from her residence. Marleen Elizabeth Puzak, 58, was charged July 31 with 35 counts of cruelty to animals, a misdemeano­r and 12 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

After receiving a complaint in July about dogs kept in poor conditions, an investigat­or went to Puzak’s home, 2125 S. Irving St., according to an arrest affidavit.

Once inside, investigat­ors found 35 dogs, some roaming the house and others in crates. Fecal matter was encrusted on surfaces throughout the home. A dozen dog cadavers were found in freezers at the residence, the affidavit said.

On Saturday, some of the dogs, including about two dozen French bulldogs, will be put up for adoption at the Denver Animal Shelter, 1241 W. Bayaud Ave.

Many of the dogs will be up for adoption, on a first-come, first-served, basis from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Only Colorado residents will be allowed to adopt the French bulldogs.

Body of Englewood woman, 59, found. ROCKY MOUNTAIN

PARK» The NATIONAL body of a 59-year-old Englewood woman was found Tuesday in Rocky Mountain National Park. On Tuesday morning at the North Trailhead parking area, rangers located a vehicle described in an advisory about a welfare check, according to a park news release. After finding the vehicle, the body of Teresa Sajsa, was discovered near Tonahutu Creek, close to the trailhead. The cause and manner of her death will be determined by the Grand County coroner’s office.

Denver police ask for help in finding suspect

in fatal stabbing. Police are looking for a man suspected of a fatal stabbing in Denver. Donald Montoya is wanted for first-degree murder in the death of George Gatsiopoul­os, police said Wednesday. Gatsiopoul­os, 57, was stabbed Monday night outside of his residence at 44 S. Pennsylvan­ia St., police said. Anyone with informatio­n on Montoya’s whereabout­s or with informatio­n on the case is asked to call 720-913-7867. Armed man robs bank; suspect arrested one block away.

ENGLEWOOD» A suspect in an armed robbery of a bank was arrested Wednesday afternoon within minutes, and one block, of an Englewood holdup. The robbery happened about 2 p.m. at Compass Bank, 4600 S. Broadway, according to police. The robber fled the bank northbound. Officers quickly caught a suspect in the 4500 block of South Broadway. Money and a firearm were recovered by police. There were no reports of injuries. Police described the suspect as a 52-year-old man. His name was not released.
