Grahame is named DU’s AD
Former University of Denver hockey goalie, assistant coach and longtime administrator Ron Grahame has been named dayto-day athletic director, effective immediately, in an announcement that coincided with the announced June 30, 2018, retirement of current AD Peg BradleyDoppes.
Bradley-Doppes, whose title is vice chancellor for athletics and recreation, will shift her immediate focus to “high-end fundraising, coaching endowments, raising money for the Denver tennis park and other capital projects,” according to a release.
“I am grateful to Peg for all that she has done for this university,” DU chancellor Rebecca Chopp said in a release. “She is an exceptional leader, a tireless advocate for this university and is a well-respected colleague, not only in Denver, but throughout Division I athletics. However, she is far from finished.”
Chopp said DU would begin a search for a new vice chancellor to replace Bradley-Doppes.
Grahame, who was a freshman at DU in 1969 and a Pioneers assistant coach in the 1980s, will continue as AD after BradleyDoppes’ departure.
“Ron has proudly represented DU at every level over the last 40 years,” Bradley-Doppes said in a release. “In his time as a standout student athlete, coach and administrator, Ron’s passion for Denver has had a positive and powerful impact in making our DU athletic program what it is today.”
Said Grahame: “It has been a long time professional goal of mine to be responsible for the day-today activities of the division. I really look forward to continuing the work I’ve done here as an administrator over the last 20-plus years as our studen -athletes, coaches and staff look to continue to build on our success in the classroom as well as on the playing field.”
Grahame played professional hockey for eight seasons in the World Hockey Association (Houston), American Hockey League (Binghamton) and the National Hockey League (Boston, Los Angeles and Quebec). He served as an assistant/associate hockey coach at DU from 1982-90.
