GINOBILI SIGNS WITH SPURS FOR 16TH YEAR

ANTONIO» Manu Ginobili is returning SAN for his 16th season with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs re-signed the 40-yearold Argentine guard Thursday. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Ginobili will become the eighth player in NBA history to spend his entire career with one team and play at least 16 seasons, joining Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, John Stockton, Reggie Miller and John Havlicek.

Ginobili averaged 7.5 points, 2.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 69 games last season, In 992 career regular-season games, he has averaged 13.6 points, 3.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds. In 213 playoff games, the four-time NBA champion has averaged 14.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Nadal, Pliskova top seeds.

YORK» Rafael Nadal is seeded No. 1 at the U.S. Open for the first time since 2010.

Karolina Pliskova is making her debut as the top-seeded woman at any Grand Slam tournament.

The U.S. Tennis Associatio­n announced the seedings, strictly adhering to this week’s ATP and WTA rankings. The U.S. Open draw is Friday; play begins Monday.

Nadal returned this week to No. 1, a ranking he last held in 2014.

The man Nadal replaced atop the ATP, Andy Murray, is seeded No. 2 at Flushing Meadows, with Roger Federer No. 3.

After 2016 U.S. Open runner-up Pliskova, Simona Halep is the women’s No. 2 seed, followed by Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza at No. 3.

Olympic champ goes out winner.

ZURICH» Four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah’s track career ended with a thrilling win in a sprawling four-man finish to the 5,000 meters at the Weltklasse Diamond League meeting.

Farah avenged his world championsh­ips loss to Muktar Edris, who fell over the finish line in third, as just 0.13 seconds separated the first four men.

Britain’s Farah doggedly held his lead to clock 13 minutes, 6.05 seconds, 0.04 ahead of Paul Chelimo of the United States, who pushed Farah and Edris across the line.

Chelimo, the worlds bronze medalist, had the same time as Edris, who was already stumbling and then brought down his Ethiopia teammate Yomif Kejelcha in fourth.

In other events, Ruth Jebet, the Kenyan-born 20-year-old runner who represents Bahrain, clocked the second-fastest time ever in the women’s 3,000 steeplecha­se.

Jebet’s 8 minutes, 55.29 seconds was less than three seconds outside the record she set a year ago in Paris. World champion Emma Coburn of Boulder was fourth.

Justin Gatlin of the U.S. was never in contention in the 100, clocking 10.04. Britain’s Chijindu Ujah won in his season’s best of 9.97.

World champion Caster Semenya timed 1:55.84 in an easy women’s 800 victory, and fellow South African gold medalist Luvo Manyonga won the men’s long jump.

Other world champions winning were Sally Pearson of Australia in the 110 hurdles and Sam Kendricks of the U.S. in the pole vault.

The men’s 400 hurdles world champion, Karsten Warholm of Norway, ran a personal record of 48.22 yet was beaten by the 48.07 from Kyron McMaster, the University of Florida student from the British Virgin Islands.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie signed into law a measure to regulate and tax daily fantasy sports. The law imposes a 10.5 percent tax on the winnings of companies that offer daily fantasy sports. Supporters of the measure estimate daily fantasy sports would generate $6.6 million annually in state taxes.
