No. 4 Mullen (0-2) lost to No. 2 Valor Christian (2-0) 35-7 after failing to score following a go-ahead, first-quarter touchdown.

No. 5 Regis Jesuit (1-0) beat No. 1 Cherry Creek (0-1) 25-20 after opening the game with special-teams and defensive scores.

No. 6 Eaglecrest (1-0) beat Smoky Hill (0-1) 49-7 thanks to multiple touchdowns from Jalen Mergerson, Kenny Wantings and Victor Garnes.

No. 7 Highlands Ranch (2-0) beat Cherokee Trail (0-1) 36-15 with a dominant 16-0, fourth-quarter performanc­e.

No. 4 Ponderosa (1-0) beat 5A Legend (0-1) 31-21 in a town of Parker rivalry. Sterling Ostdahl quarterbac­ked Ponderosa to the victory.

No. 5 Windsor (1-0) beat No. 10 Vista Ridge (0-1) 14-3 in a grinding victory in coach Chris Jones’ return following his year off in 2016.

No. 6 Monarch (1-0) beat Bear Creek (0-1) 39-13 in a decisive season-opening win for coach Philip Bravo and his Coyotes.

No. 7 Heritage (0-0) played at Rampart (1-0) on Saturday night.

No. 8 Denver South (0-1) lost to 5A Boulder (1-0) 27-25 as an 80-yard kickoff return by Patrick Fletcher with 12 seconds left set up Boulder’s win.

No. 9 Fruita Monument (1-0) beat Montrose (1-1) 36-35 with two rushing touchdowns from Braeden Graham as well as quarterbac­k Zach Rush.

No. 10 Vista Ridge (0-1) lost to No. 5 Windsor (1-0) 14-3 as Sean Robinson had the lone points for the Wolves, who were held to 65 yards rushing.
