Football and food

Here’s what you can look forward to at Sports Authority Field (besides the game)

- By Sara Grant

NFL football is almost here. It’s so close, we can already smell the charcoal and we’ve already dusted off our fat pants. Sure, the season is about rooting for your favorite team as it fights another year to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but it’s also an excuse to eat — a lot.

Whether you and your jersey-clad comrades watch from home with taco dip and cases of Coors or you make the trek to Sports Authority Field at Mile High, the next 17 weeks are going to be tasty. In honor of this most foodtastic time, we’re looking at some of the new food available at Broncos home games this season and chatted with a few players (Page 3E) about where they like to indulge in the Denver food scene.

You’re watching Von Miller pummel Tom Brady and all you can think is “Man, I wish I had an egg roll right now.” We’ve all been there.

Thinking “Man, I wish I had a cranberry walnut salad,” maybe not so much. But, hey, at least you have the option now.

On Aug. 22, the Broncos unveiled new food items available at Sports Authority Field at Mile High during Broncos games this season. The highlights:

Blitz Burger, $10

This baby is made with locally sourced beef from Gold Canyon Ranch. The half-pound burger starts with two fresh quarter-pound, all-natural beef patties, topped with American cheese and a freshly prepared house-made “United in Orange” Bacon Onion Jam created in collaboration with Breckenridge Brewery. The burger is served on a locally baked Challah bun.

Chicken Wings, $8 for six pieces or $12 for 10

In partnership with Breckenridge Brewery and TABASCO®, the following four unique sauces (Classic Buffalo, Sweet Chili & TABASCO®, Honey Sriracha BBQ and Breckenridge Mango Mosaic Habanero) are now available. Wings are served with ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce and celery.

Garlic Parmesan Ranch Fries, $6

These crispy fries are hand tossed and coated with a blend of ranch seasoning and garlic parmesan sauce.

Street Taco Trio, $9

Building off the success of the Street Taco Trio, in collaboration with Breckenridge Brewery, each trio of tacos comes complete with choice of beef barbacoa or seasoned chicken, cilantro-lime aioli, pickled onion, fresh jalapenos and a new “United in Orange Pale Ale” pickled slaw. The slaw preserves traditional pickling flavors while add- ing a touch of zing.

Denver Chili Cheese Dog, $6

The classic stadium dog is smothered with spicy nacho cheese and a helping of Schlereth’s “Stinkin Good Green Chili.”

Increased Pizza Variety, $7.50

Enhancing the popular giant slice of pizza lineup, two new pizza toppings — Colorado green chili chicken and pork sausage — have been added to the menu.

Egg Rolls, $3

A new addition to the teriyaki bowl concept, crispy pork and vegetable egg rolls are served with hot mustard, sweet and sour and soy sauce.

Gyros, $9

Traditional Greek-style gyros are served on warmed pita bread with sweet red onions, cucumbers and a creamy Tzatziki sauce.

Gluten-free Vegetable Snack Trays, $8

Carrots, celery and sugar snap peas are accompanied by hummus dip or ranch dip.

Gluten-free Turkey Hoagie, $9

A locally produced gluten-free bun with smoked turkey breast, cheddar cheese slices and condiments.

Specialty Entrée Salads, $9

Featuring cranberry walnut, Italian chopped and organic spring feta, these salads are allin-one packaged and will be available at all Mile High Pie and Fan Stands locations throughout the stadium.

United in Orange 2.0

United in Orange 2.0 Pale Ale is a collaboration between Breckenridge Brewery, Centerplate and the Broncos. Brewed with orange juice and orange peel, it salutes the Orange & Blue.
