Julmisse dismissed from team

University of Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre said Wednesday that cornerback Anthony Julmisse has been dismissed from the team.

Julmisse, a sophomore who would have competed for a starting role, was arrested July 27 — just before the start of preseason camp — and accused of assault, harassment and domestic violence. He was immediately suspended from all team activities at that point.

He was then arrested last month and charged with first-degree trespassing of an automobile with the intent to commit a crime, leaving the scene of an accident and false reporting.

Julmisse has a hearing scheduled next Thursday. This week, he is still listed as suspended on the roster, but MacIntyre said Julmisse was dismissed when fall classes began last week.

In the past, MacIntyre has brought some dismissed players back to the team a year later. He did not rule out that possibility with Julmisse.

Julmisse is the second player dismissed from the team this summer, along with linebacker NJ Falo.

Angling for rule change.

The NCAA has talked about altering the redshirt rules for football, and it’s a change MacIntyre said he’s pushing for.

Currently, if a true freshman plays even one snap of one game, he burns his redshirt year. There is talk of allowing freshmen to play up to four games throughout the course of the season and still maintain the redshirt.

That would allow young players to fill in for veterans who miss a game or two with an injury, or fill in for various other reasons, MacIntyre said.

“I’m hoping the NCAA votes that in, especially with our limited number of scholarships,” MacIntyre said. “For the safety of the player, I think it makes a big difference.”

MacIntyre expressed concern for the people in Houston and Florida dealing with severe weather issues. Several CU players are from those areas, and he said that so far, all the players’ families are doing OK . ... As heavy favorites against Texas State, the Buffs might be able to play several backups, including quarterback Sam Noyer, but that’s not the focus of MacIntyre. “We have to play really well,” he said. “If we get an opportunity where I can get Sam in, we will, but this is going to be a tough game.”
