Aaron Judge homered twice in the Yankees’ 16-7 rout of the Rangers, becoming only the second major-league rookie with a 40-homer season. He joined Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle as the only Yankees to hit 40 home runs at age 25 or younger. Mark McGwire hit 49 homers as a rookie with Oakland in 1987 . ... Eric Hosmer has 12 hits in his past 15 at-bats, raising his batting average to .328 . ... Tucker Barnhart’s career-high five RBIs helped the Reds beat the Mets 10-5. The Reds rallied for three runs in the seventh to make it 3-3. Scooter Gennett was called out on strikes by plate umpire Shane Livensparg­er to end the inning, and Reds manager Bryan Price came out to argue. Price was contesting the call with Livensparg­er and crew chief Jerry Layne when New York firefighte­r Makiah Brown walked on the field for her rendition of “God Bless America.” Price and the two umpires took off their hats for the performanc­e, then resumed the argument when Brown finished . ... Teoscar Hernandez hit his first two home runs of the season, helping the Blue Jays pound the Tigers 8-2 . ... Jose Abreu connected for two home runs one day after hitting for the cycle, helping the White Sox rout the Giants 8-1 in an interleagu­e matchup of last-place teams . ... Rio Ruiz hit a tying, two-run single with two outs in a three-run ninth inning and Lane Adams hit a two-run homer off Vance Worley in the 11th that gave the Braves a 10-8 victory over the Marlins . ... Dallas Keuchel walked in two runs and hit a batter to force in another run during a shaky sixth inning, and the Athletics completed a four-game sweep of the Astros with a 10-2 victory . ... Paul Goldschmid­t homered on his 30th birthday and J.D. Martinez went deep twice, helping the Diamondbac­ks beat the Padres 3-2.
