Friday that its chief information officer and chief security officer would leave the company immediately, following the enormous breach of 143 million Americans’ personal information.
The credit data company said that Susan Mauldin, who had been the top security officer, and David Webb, the chief technology officer, are retiring from Equifax. Mauldin, a college music major, had come under media scrutiny for her qualifications in security. Equifax did not say in its statement what retirement packages the executives would receive.

WYO.» A court CHEYENNE, has cast doubt on a longstanding government argument that blocking federal coal leasing won’t affect climate change because the coal could simply be mined elsewhere. Friday’s ruling by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver is the biggest win yet for environmentalists trying to block coal mining on climate-change grounds. The appeals court ruling tells a lower court to seek more analysis from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Consumers cut back on their shopping in August by the largest amount in six months as declining auto sales offset gains in other areas. Retail sales fell 0.2 percent last month after a 0.3 percent gain in July.

Colorado, U.S. rigs fall.
HOUSTON» The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. fell by eight this week to 936. Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes said Friday that Colorado had one fewer rig.
Happy Meal changing apple juice.
The Happy Meal is getting a new apple juice. McDonald’s says it will swap out Minute Maid juice cartons for an organic one by Honest Kids. Both brands are made by the CocaCola Co., but the Honest Kids juice has half the calories and less sugar.
