Brush fire contained near Highlands Ranch.

-

DOUGLAS COUNTY» Firefighters and law enforcement officers have contained the 46-acre brush fire near Highlands Ranch on Saturday, turning their efforts to mop-up and monitoring throughout the night.

Roughly 220 people kept the Range 5 Fire at bay overnight. It’s still unknown what caused the fire and no injuries have been reported, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was near the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility at 6001 Ron King Trail, according to the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority. The area includes a firing range and is about 1.5 miles south of a residential area.

The steep terrain, limited water and changing weather prompted a pre-evacuation notice for more than 3,000 homes that was later canceled, according to South Metro.
