Can Siemian best Cowboys?

- Mark Kiszla: mkiszla@denverpost.com or @markkiszla

What if’s. If Broncos executive John Elway hadn’t outfought and outsmarted the Cowboys to steal quarterback Paxton Lynch in the 2016 NFL draft and settled for Dak Prescott, would the Broncos be in the Super Bowl this year?

Michael, stirring the pot

Kiz: What are you trying to say here? That the Broncos have Prescott envy? Reminds me of something my dear, old friend Mike Shanahan used to tell me all the time: “You’re a real troublemaker, aren’t you?” The comparisons between Prescott and Lynch will go on forever. But all Trevor Siemian has to do Sunday is be one point better than Prescott. Sounds about right: Broncos 17, Cowboys 16.

Not a Jerry fan. As a one-time huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, I can say you hit the nail on the head, Kiz. Aside from his business success, Jerry Jones is trash and has destroyed the once-admired legacy of the Cowboys. The only reason Jones is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is he made his franchise one of the most valuable teams in the world. Jones makes money. For that reason, no one can say he’s a loser. Great businessman. Terrible general manager.

Ryan, grabbing bull by the horns

Kiz: When it comes to the Hall of Fame, I believe the more the merrier. It’s a celebration of the sport. A big party. So build a bigger room and buy more beer. But, with all due respect, NFL owners should shut up and buy the beer. Players such as Steve Atwater, Randy Gradishar and Louis Wright are the guys I want to see enshrined.

A vote for Thursday. I love “Thursday Night Football.” It’s freaking football! Don’t watch if you don’t like it. Why whine about it?

W.B., old-school fan

Kiz: Know why the NFL’S television ratings are down? It’s what happens after the national anthem is played. Yes, some fans have found the anthem protests odious. But what really stinks is the on-field product. Playing a game on short rest and short preparation does nothing for quality. Heck, we all know the staff here at Kickin’ It Headquarters has no life, but even we don’t waste our time with “Thursday Night Football.” It’s the worst idea since commissioner Roger Goodell decided to make himself judge, jury and executioner.

Bad treatment. I moved to Colorado from the Buffalo area, after seeing how a proud Sabres organization was brought to ruins by inept general manager Darcy Regier, who made Buffalo an undesirable NHL destination by treating players as chattel. Joe Sakic’s treatment of Matt Duchene will be noted by Avs players, as well as players around the league. Successful businesses value all employees, from the janitor to the CEO.

Mike, saber-rattling

Kiz: How ’bout the Avs keep Duchene and trade Sakic? It’s not a particularly imaginative idea. But it’s better than any idea the team’s general manager has come up with lately.

Hot air. And today’s parting shot sheds some light on a vastly under-reported reason for global warming.

Kiz, the hot air from your pie hole is a large contributing factor.
