Clinton shouldn’t be criticized for having a voice after defeat

- Re: Susan Altenhofen, R. Thaemert, Leslie George,

“Clinton’s new book only fills her bank and casts blame,” Sept. 14 letters to the editor.

As I read The Denver Post’s article on Hillary Clinton writing a book about her harrowing loss last year to despicable candidate Donald Trump — who, for all his braggadocio, never truly wanted the job — I knew that the right wingers would proceed to cast venom her way as they have always done.

My take on her writing about her candidacy: let her speak. Having been denied the kind of flattering and endless news coverage that the media bent over backwards to heap upon candidate Trump, whose showboating skills are only matched by his chilling unworthiness for the job, she deserves to be heard.

Despite being labeled as more flawed than her opponent, Clinton ran a classy campaign. Just because her critics voted for a misogynistic and racist anti-intellectual who is finding out rather quickly that obstruction of justice can get you canned doesn’t mean Clinton doesn’t have the right to say what is on her mind. I look forward to reading about her lived experience during the most bizarre upside down election of our time.

For decades, the GOP and the media have criticized and vilified Hillary Clinton for her early ‘90s work on healthcare and for being assertive and driven. Then, as secretary of state she was blamed for years of foreign policy mistakes and being too cozy with the financial world. So much of what she said and did was reviewed as wrong and/or too aggressive. She warned us about a Trump presidency, saying there is a rule of law in this country.

With all the 2016 election proven Russian involvement, subversion and still so many open questions to be investigated, Clinton has every prerogative to explain the details in her own voice and on her own terms. Having dealt with and survived ongoing adverse push back and coverage, she remains an influential figure in governance and in society. Now, as her latest book is published, we need to ask why the critics feel so compelled to continue expressing their rage against a strong, smart and articulate female.

It seems letter writers David Prok and Kay Robbins believed all the fake news on social media coming from the Russians during the election. Also, with James Comey injecting himself a few days before the election, Clinton is right. If not for Comey, and (I add) the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russians, she would have won and we wouldn’t have a totally unprepared, unqualified and embarrassing president.
