Eye On ... The Buffalo Bills

- — Nick Kosmider, The Denver Post

Denver at Buffalo, 11 a.m. Sunday, KCNC-4

For the record: The Bills never found the end zone Sunday in a 9-3 loss to Carolina, a defeat that dropped them to 1-1. Buffalo didn’t score until the fourth quarter and didn’t enter Panthers territory in the first half.

Who’s hot: Jordan Poyer. The safety had a team-high 11 tackles and a sack to lead a dominant performance — albeit in a losing effort — by the Buffalo defense Sunday. Poyer also had a key interception in the Bills’ 21-12 season-opening victory over the New York Jets.

Who’s not: LeSean McCoy. After a strong showing to start the season, McCoy fell flat Sunday. The veteran running back managed only 9 yards rushing on 12 carries against the Panthers. He was limited to 34 yards on six catches in the passing game.

Key stat: 6. The amount of net passing yards the Bills had in the first half Sunday, and it didn’t improve much from there. Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor finished 17-of-25 for 125 yards, an average of just 5.0 yards per attempt. He had no passes longer than 15 yards, and he was sacked three times for 18 yards. FYI: Bills coach Sean McDermott addressed his team’s quarterback situation Monday, reiterating his faith in Taylor despite Sunday’s lackluster offensive performance. “We all need to play better, and it starts with me as the coach,” McDermott said per the team’s Twitter account. “Tyrod is our starting quarterback, and I expect him to respond this week.”

Streaking: The Bills are 20-16-1 all time against the Broncos, but Denver has won six of the past eight meetings. The Broncos won the last matchup, a 24-17 victory on Dec. 7, 2014, in Denver behind three touchdown runs by C.J. Anderson.

Coachspeak: “I feel the frustration out there. It’s hard to win games in this league when you’re scoring three points.” — McDermott, on Buffalo’s poor offensive performance
