HURRICANE MAY THREATEN N.C. THIS WEEK

For the fourth time in a month, a hurricane is threatenin­g the U.S. mainland. Hurricane Maria could prompt storm watches along North Carolina’s Outer Banks as it rolls north after killing at least 10 people and knocking out power to Puerto Rico. The storm, which struck the island as a Category 4 major hurricane, threatens to at least graze the East Coast this week. Across the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, tropical storms have killed at least 100. Ten people died on Puerto Rico, according to AP.

Macron’s party suffers hit in Senate election.

PARIS» President Emmanuel Macron’s upstart centrist party suffered its first electoral blow Sunday, as traditiona­l conservati­ves dominated Senate elections amid disenchant­ment with Macron’s leadership. The results damage his legitimacy as he seeks to make a mark on Europe’s future and embarks on a divisive labor law overhaul he hopes will invigorate the French economy. Truckers plan to block highways and fuel depots Monday in the latest show of anti-Macron defiance.

Weiner faces sentencing in latest chapter of sexting drama.

Former congressma­n Anthony Weiner, 53, is set to be sentenced Monday for sending obscene material to a 15-year-old girl in a case that may have also have played a role in costing Hillary Clinton — former boss of Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin — the presidenti­al election. Federal prosecutor­s have asked for slightly more than two years behind bars.

“Kingsman” dethrones “It” with $39 million debut.

HOLLYWOOD» The R-rated spy comedy “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” displaced the horror sensation “It” as the No. 1 film in North America. But “It” still continues to pull in record crowds.
