HIKER DIES OF HEART ATTACK

- — Denver Post wire services

A 55year-old California man hiking Saturday with his son near the Maroon Bells died of an apparent heart attack, sources said Monday.

Jason Gong of San Jose was 1.4 miles up the Crater Lake Trail and told his son he was not feeling well Saturday morning, according to Alex Burchetta, director of operations at the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, and Eric Hansen, a Pitkin County deputy coroner.

The father and son became separated soon after that, and the next time the son saw Gong he was being given CPR by at least one nurse and a doctor, Burchetta and Hansen said.

The medical professionals, who may also have included another nurse and doctor, performed CPR for a long time before one of the doctors pronounced Gong dead, officials said.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about the incident at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, Burchetta said.

Police say Colorado suspect not yet tied to slain Indiana teens.

IND.» Indiana DELPHI,

State Police say investigators haven’t determined whether a man accused of threatening people along a Colorado hiking trail could be linked to the unsolved killings of two teenage hikers in northern Indiana.

State police said Tuesday investigators so far have no information “to specifically include or exclude Daniel Nations as a suspect” in the fatal attack near Delphi.

Two state detectives traveled Friday to El Paso County to investigate whether the 31-year-old man could be linked to the February deaths of 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams.

State police say those detectives returned Monday to Indiana and are reviewing information.

Nations is jailed in Colorado on reckless endangerment and other charges for allegedly threatening people with a hatchet along a trail near Mount Herman.

Police arrest couple in case of stolen blue wigs.

GREELEY» A woman and her boyfriend were arrested Sunday after officers spotted her wearing a wig they say she stole from a boutique.

According to arrest affidavits, officers believe Sandra Petkevis, 35, and William Krone, 29, broke into the downtown boutique.

During officers’ initial response to the shop, they noted necklaces, earrings and bracelets were taken from the store, as well as two blue wigs, which were worth more than $100. The shop’s glass window also was shattered. At that point, police did not know who committed the crime. Officers on patrol in the area later caught sight of Petkevis wearing the wig. They were sure it was the same wig because, according to the affidavit, “the color was extremely unique and stood out prominently.”

When police spoke with Petkevis, they also noticed she was wearing jewelry similar to the merchandise stolen earlier that day.
