ARIZONA SAYS HOOPS COACH MILLER HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED

TUCSON» The University of Arizona initiated an independen­t review and hired outside counsel in the wake and a federal probe involving one of its assistant basketball coaches.

University President Robert C. Robbins also said Tuesday coach Sean Miller has not been charged or accused of any misconduct in a case the led to the arrest of assistant coach Emanuel Richardson on federal bribery charges.

The school said in a statement it has retained the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson LLP to conduct the internal review. Paul Charlton, the firm’s managing partner and Former U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, will lead the investigat­ion.

• Vince Tyra hopes to add some continuity to an unstable situation, no matter how long — or brief — his time is as Louisville’s acting athletic director.

The university foundation board member was named the acting replacemen­t for athletic director Tom Jurich, who is on paid administra­tive leave as the school addresses its involvemen­t in a federal bribery investigat­ion of men’s basketball recruits.

Referee sues over harassment.

OMAHA» College basketball referee John Higgins filed a civil lawsuit in federal court against a Kentucky media company, accusing it of creating conditions that led to the harassment of him and his family after an NCAA Tournament game he worked in March.

The suit filed Tuesday blames Kentucky Sports Radio for helping incite death threats and defamatory messages posted on social media and in phone messages. The harassment came after Higgins worked Kentucky’s loss to North Carolina in a regional final. The lawsuit says that damaged Higgins’ roofing business in suburban Omaha.

Vonn’s quest on hold for now.

ZURICH» Lindsey Vonn’s quest to race against the men in a World Cup event remains on hold for the moment.

U.S. Ski and Snowboard presented its proposal to the Internatio­nal Ski Federation’s Alpine executive board, with the topic being tabled until the spring. Vonn, the all-time winningest female World Cup racer, is hoping to race a downhill against the men during the 2018-19 season. The U.S. petitioned FIS on her behalf.

Morgan removed by police.

Police told a group including U.S. women’s national team star Alex Morgan and several Orlando City players to leave a Disney World theme park.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Office incident report on Tuesday said deputies escorted a “highly impaired” Morgan, who plays in the NWSL for the Orlando Pride, MLS players Giles Barnes and Donny Toia, and Toia’s wife, Courtney, from Epcot Center after an argument at a restaurant.
