Local Briefs 3 IN CUSTODY IN SMASH-GRAB GUN THEFTS

Two Denver men were arrested late last month and a third is in custody as suspects in metro-area gun store smash-and-grab thefts of firearms.

Darnell Hudgens and Kendall Crockett, both 23 and both of Denver, and Giavanni Edward Miles, 21, residence unknown, allegedly stole firearms and conspired with others in an Aug. 10 smash-and-grab at Cabela’s in Lone Tree, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office for Colorado.

The three are also suspects in firearms thefts Aug. 21 at Cabela’s in Thornton, the release said. They’ve been charged with possessing stolen firearms, conspiracy to steal firearms from a federal firearm licensee and disposal of the weapons.

As of Tuesday, 16 suspects have been charged federally for theft of firearms from federal firearms licensees along the Front Range. This year more than 400 firearms have been stolen in Colorado.

Commerce City man faces first-degree-murder charge in death of wife.

COUNTY» A man ADAMS who allegedly attacked his wife now faces a charge of first-degree murder after the victim’s death last week. Derek Michael Johnston, 38, of Commerce City, had been charged with attempted first-degree murder, according to the Adams County district attorney’s office.

Commerce City police on Sept. 6 found Melissa Ehrmann unresponsi­ve at the couple’s home in the 14800 block of East 119th Avenue. Johnston, who was charged Sept. 12, also faces charges of first-degree assault, child abuse and a crime-of-violence sentencing enhancer. The couple’s 19-month-old son was at home the day police found Ehrmann. Ehrmann, 38, died of her injuries Friday.

Man fatally shot by police identified as suspect in earlier homicide.

A man who was shot and killed by Fort Collins police Oct. 1 is a suspect in a homicide investigat­ion in the city.

George Randall Newman, 26, was killed by police Oct. 1 at America’s Best Value Inn, 1809 North College Ave., according to police.

Newman was identified as a suspect Tuesday in the death of Sherri Allman, whose body was found Oct. 4 during a welfare check at her home in the 1600 block of North College, police said.

Allman, who was fatally stabbed, was killed on or around Sept. 28.

At the hotel, Newman allegedly shot a gun inside a room, and another guest called 911 to report the gunfire. When officers responded and he answered the hotel-room door wielding a gun, Sgt. Justin Gallimore, who has served with the police department since 2009, fatally shot the suspect. Gallimore in on paid administra­tive leave.

Police plan to release Gallimore’s body camera video to the public when the shooting investigat­ion and internal review are complete. Police were unaware of Allman’s death when they were called to the hotel Oct. 1.

The Allman homicide investigat­ion is ongoing. Police said Tuesday they have evidence linking Newman to her death.

Suspect in Greeley man’s death arrested.

A 37-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Thornton as a suspect in the death of a Greeley man. Kelly Robert Raisley was taken into custody about 11 a.m. in the 4700 block of East 127th Drive, according to Greeley police. Denver Safe Streets Task Force and Thornton police assisted Greeley with the arrest. The body of Randy Baker was found in August in his Greeley home, in the 1900 block of 44th Avenue, according to the Greeley Tribune. Raisley is also being held on drug charges. The homicide investigat­ion is ongoing. — Denver Post staff reports
