TWITTER CEO VOWS TO WEED OUT HATE

CEO Jack Dorsey is promising the company will do a better job weeding out sexual harassment, hateful symbols and violent groups from its short messaging service.

The pledge issued in a series of tweets late Friday followed a boycott organized by women supporting actress Rose Mcgowan after she said Twitter temporaril­y suspended her account for posting about the alleged misconduct of film producer Harvey Weinstein. The movie mogul was fired last Sunday by the company he cofounded amid accusation­s that he sexually harassed or sexually assaulted women. Dorsey said the new rules will be announced next week, with the changes taking effect soon after.

Former board member apologizes.

A former school board member in South Carolina has apologized for sending an email where he called African-american board members “darkies.”

But one black Florence School District One member says that is not enough and he wants a state and federal investigat­ion into possible discrimina­tion.

Glenn Odom sent the email to a district employee asking for a ride and also asking her not to “send it to the darkies.”

Trump lawyers fight Twitter suit.

Lawyers for President Donald Trump say a judge should reject a lawsuit challengin­g Trump’s ability to block his critics from following him on Twitter.

The lawsuit was filed in July by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University and seven people blocked by Trump.

Passenger, 70, held after airport threats.

A 70-year-old passenger was arrested Saturday at Laguardia Airport after authoritie­s say he threatened a worker at the Spirit Airlines ticket counter, prompting a partial evacuation of the terminal and the summoning of explosives experts.

No explosives were found. The man was identified as In John Park of Farmington, Mich.

Urinating dog artist dies.

The artist who placed a urinating dog statute next to the “Fearless Girl” statue on Wall Street was killed by a train Thursday, New York Daily News reports.

The girl statue became famous after it was placed facing off with Wall Street’s bull statue.

Alexander Gardega, 48, described himself in his Instagram bio as “politicall­y incorrect to my very artistic core.”
