Bobo’s big day includes a TD pass to Montez

- By Brian Howell

CORVALLIS, ORE.» Bryce Bobo is doing just fine as a receiver for the Buffaloes.

Perhaps the Buffs aren’t using his talents correctly, however.

“They should just put me at quarterback,” Bobo joked after Saturday’s 36-33 win over Oregon State.

That’s not likely to happen, but Bobo made a key play with his arm, throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Steven Montez on a trick play in the first half.

“Once they called the play, I knew I was going to throw the ball and I didn’t need to run it, but during the time I actually had the ball, there was a lot of guys running toward me,”said Bobo, a senior. “In my head, I would just take off. Then I saw (Montez) wide open, so I just floated it up and he caught it. Big-time play.”

For his career, Bobo is 2-for-2 as a passer, for 78 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a 67-yard scoring pass to Phillip Lindsay last year.

He’s not too bad as a receiver, either. In fact, Saturday was arguably the best game of his career.

Bobo caught nine passes for a career-high 126 yards and two touchdowns. He also hauled in a two-point conversion.

It was just the second 100-yard game of Bobo’s career, and the first by a CU receiver in four Pac-12 games.

“He was great,” co-offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren said. “I feel like whenever we needed a big play, Steven was looking his way, and he stepped up on that last touchdown.”

Montez and Bobo have connected 15 times for 179 yards and three touchdowns in the past two games.
