KNIGHT IS CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

Former major-leaguer and current television analyst Ray Knight was charged with assault after an incident in his northern Virginia home.

Fairfax County Police said they were called to Knight’s home in the Alexandria area at about 4 a.m. Sunday for reports of a fight. Police say Knight got into a fight with a 33year-old male acquaintan­ce and that both had visible injuries.

Martinez to interview.

Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez will interview with the Nationals for their vacant manager’s job.

Cardinals add McGee.

The Cardinals made changes to their coaching staff, adding former Cardinals great Willie McGee and bringing back Jose Oquendo as third-base coach.

Angels hire Hinske.

The Angels hired Eric Hinske as their hitting coach, general manager Billy Eppler announced.

Hinske spent the past four seasons on the Cubs’ coaching staff, including three straight years as the assistant hitting coach on three playoff teams.

Sixth time’s the charm.

Gerry Davis will work the World Series for the sixth time, tying Joe West for the most times among active umpires.

Davis will be crew chief for the third time.

Braves decline Dickey.

The Braves declined their $8 million option on 42-year-old knucklebal­ler R.A. Dickey for 2018.
