Corpse Reviver, Evil Eye cocktail and Wolfsbane Bowl are scary fun
Just because you’re past the age when trick-or-treating is socially acceptable doesn’t mean you can’t have any Halloween treats. They’re just drinkable treats, filled with spirits of a different sort. Here are some spooky Halloween cocktails around town that taste better than red rum.
One of Ocean Prime’s best-selling cocktails is also its coolest. The Berries & Bubbles martini, with its dry ice smoke spewing from the glass, is a regular witch’s cauldron of sweet/tart/ sparkly magic. 1465 Larimer St., Denver, 303-825-3663; ocean-prime.com
Hard Rock Café’s Evil Eye cocktail simultaneously delights and terrifies, which is exactly what we want out of a Halloween drink. The muddled straw-
berries and blueberries, pineapple juice and white and spiced rums combine for a lovely sip, but that creepy lychee and blueberry “eye” staring back at us is downright freaky. 500 16th St., Denver, 303-6233191; hardrock.com
Wondering where you can get a bowl of werewolf-inspired punch? Try Punch Bowl Social’s Halloween-y Wolfsbane’s Bowl, a tart blend of tequila, Campari, Teakoe’s Orange Octane Tea, grapefruit syrup, lime juice and red wine float. This drink definitely has bite. 65 Broadway, Denver, 303765-2695; punchbowlsocial.com
Tupelo Honey’s Corpse Reviver #2 shared cocktail may have originated as a pre-prohibition hair-ofthe-dog hangover cure, but it’s perfect for Halloween celebrations, too. The fact that it has the word “corpse” in its title is reason enough for us, but if you need more, consider that it’s served in a glass urn and filled with enough absinthe and gin to wake the dead. See? Totally “Thriller”-worthy. 1650 Wewatta St., Denver, 720274-0650; tupelohoneycafe.com
What’s Halloween without a good murder mystery? Beatrice & Woodsley celebrates Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” with the ward Henry Masterman cocktail, named after a character (and murder suspect) in the classic whodunit. A mix of whiskey, ginger lemongrass syrup, Velvet falernum, cardamom bitters and lime, this drink goes down so easily it’s a crime. 38 S.
