KURALY’S 1ST NHL GOAL LIFTS BRUINS OVER KNIGHTS 2- 1

Sean Kuraly scored his BOSTON first NHL goal to snap a tie midway through the third period, sending the Bruins to a 2- 1 victory over the Golden Knights on Thursday night.

Kuraly got to a rebound during a scrum in front of the Vegas net after a shot by Torey Krug with 10: 07 left, restoring Boston’s lead and helping the Bruins to avoid being swept by the expansion Golden Knights in their inaugural season. It was the second assist of the night for Krug, who helped set up Reilly Nash’s goal early in the second for Boston, which was coming off consecutiv­e losses in overtime and a shootout.

Cody Eakin scored for Vegas, which fell to 0- 3 on a six- game road trip out East.

HIGHLIGHTS

Lars Eller scored two goals, including the winner, and had an assist to help the Capitals beat the Islanders 4- 3. Eller was arguably the best player on the ice, drawing two penalties and committing one as part of an eventful outing. The Danish center’s play helped Washington escape despite being outshot 38- 19 and 16- 2 in the third period. … Mark Stone had a goal and an assist and Craig Anderson made 24 saves in the Senators’ 3- 1 victory over the RedWings. … J. T. Miller scored 1: 19 into overtime as the Rangers beat the Lightning 2- 1. Miller skated around defenseman Anton Stralman and beat Andrei Vasilevski­y. New York also got a goal from Chris Kreider, and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 27 shots. … Oliver Bjorkstran­d and Josh Anderson each scored twice to lift the Blue Jackets over the Panthers 7- 3. … Matt Cullen scored his first goal of the season on his 41st birthday and added an assist during Minnesota’s threegoal first period, giving the sputtering Wild a welcome spark on the way to a 6- 3 victory over the Canadiens. … Mark Scheifele had a hat trick, Patrik Laine scored his first goal in five games and the Jets beat the Stars 5- 2 to extend their points streak to six games. … Michal Neuvirth made 33 saves and Brandon Manning broke a scoreless tie with a secondperi­od goal to lead the Flyers over the Blues 2- 0. … Mark Giordano scored 2: 19 into overtime, Mike Smith made 43 saves and the Flames beat the Penguins 2- 1.

Bruins place Backes on IR. The Bruins placed forward David Backes on injured reserve and expect him to miss up to eight weeks as he recovers from surgery to remove a portion of his colon. Backes has been bothered by diverticul­itis and has played only five games this season.
