YORK» A federal grand jury in NEW

New York City has returned indictment­s against four college basketball assistant coaches charged in a bribery scheme.

The grand jury returned the indictment­s Tuesday against eight of 10 men arrested in September.

Prosecutor­s say the men are accused of using bribes to influence star athletes’ choice of schools, shoe sponsors and agents. They face fraud and other charges.

The assistant coaches charged are Chuck Person of Auburn, Emanuel “Book” Richardson of Arizona, Tony Bland of Southern California and Lamont Evans of Oklahoma State.

The time to return an indictment was extended for a month for two defendants, including Brad Augustine, the AAU program director who stepped down.

Lawyers for Person and Richardson say their clients will be exonerated. Lawyers for Bland, Evans and Augustine couldn’t be reached for comment.

• Three UCLA men’s basketball players — including LiAngelo Ball, the younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball — were arrested in China before Friday’s season-opening game against Georgia Tech in Shanghai.

The group of players were arrested on shopliftin­g charges.

Iowa’s Snyder tears ACL again.

Iowa safety Brandon Snyder, who recently returned from an ACL tear, will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the same knee ligament.

Snyder will undergo a second surgery, and the team expects him to be ready for the 2018 season. He suffered the initial injury during spring practice in April and had surgery.

• Texas will be without starting cornerback Holton Hill for the Longhorns’ final three games while serving a suspension for violating team rules.

• Florida State reschedule­d its game against Louisiana-Monroe for Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 9 but was canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

World Series didn’t match 2016’s.

The Nielsen company said the Houston Astros’ final victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the World Series reached an average of 28.3 million viewers on Fox, down from the near 40 million of 2016’s final game between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians.

AUSTRALIA» Rekindling MELBOURNE, stormed home to win the 157th Melbourne Cup by a long neck, overhaulin­g Johannes Vermeer near the finish to give trainer Joseph O’Brien a victory over his famous father in Australia’s most famous race.

Max Dynamite was 2½ lengths further back in third to give the Irish a 1-2-3 finish in the 157th running of the 2-mile classic.
