WAIR FORCE ACADEMY» Josh Allen paved the way for the Wyoming football team’s latest victory, and his teammates closed it out after he went down with an injury.

Allen passed for one touchdown and ran for another TD before being sidelined, and Wyoming’s stout defensive performance helped it weather the loss of its star quarterback in a 28-14 win over Air Force at Falcon Stadium on Saturday night.

The Cowboys (7-3, 5-1 Mountain West) scored 21 of their points — including Kellen Overstreet's 9yard touchdown run that capped the scoring with 8:51 remaining — off three Air Force (4-6, 3-3) turnovers. Allen completed 8-of-11 passes for 70 yards, including a 17-yard scoring pass to Jared Scott, before being injured early in the third quarter. He also had a 2-yard touchdown run.

Wyoming didn’t announce details about Allen’s injury. He walked off the field and was cradling his right arm before going into a medical tent on the Cowboys’ sideline to be examined. Wyoming coach Craig Bohl didn’t elaborate on Allen’s injury after the game but indicated that Allen would have further medical evaluation.

Garrett Crall’s recovery of a fumble by Air Force quarterback Arion Worthman at Wyoming’s 33yard line set up Overstreet’s touchdown. Nick Smith, who replaced Allen, completed a 38-yard pass to Woods to the 19 and, one play later, Overstreet bulled his way up the middle for the touchdown.

Trailing by 14 points, the Falcons cut their deficit on Taven Birdow’s 10-yard touchdown run with 9:35 left in the third quarter. But the Falcons could not sustain their comeback bid.

The Cowboys won despite having only 229 total yards. The Falcons wasted 378 total yards, including 203 on the ground.
