Artists refreshingly apolitical during Country Music Awards
“No one had the courage to speak out at the CMAs,” Nov. 10 Chris Richards column.
I had quit watching award shows because I am tired of hearing celebrities using that opportunity to share their personal politics and opinions. Because I like country music, I decided to take a chance and watch the County Music Awards. Although there were hints of feelings about current events, most of the show moved along and it had a lot of performances of the music I like.
I couldn’t believe the commentary from Washington Post writer Chris Richards, who complained the show did not use the opportunity to flaunt political opinion from the performers — exactly the opposite of my feelings. Just because I enjoy a performer’s work doesn’t mean I want to hear their opinions, which are usually poorly thought-out and fueled by emotion and lack of information.
