Louisville firm abruptly delivers last order

Door to Door Organics surprises employees on website.

Louisville’s Door to Door Organics abruptly shut down Friday, saying that there was no way forward in a message to its customers posted on its website.

“It is with a heavy heart that we reach out to you today to share that effective Friday, Nov. 17, Door to Door Organics will cease operations,” the website said.

This year marked the firm’s 20 year anni“Our versary. The closure came just weeks after Door to Door CEO Mike Demko said the company had a bright future and that it was in the midst of raising $20 million to continue growing.

“We’re expecting to see double-digit acquisitio­n growth” over the next 18 months, Demko said. “We’ve got great economics in the market: (We’re) breaking even on customers in six months and (retaining them for) 1-2 years on average.

Officials at Door to Door did not immediatel­y respond to requests for comment Friday morning.

But its website note to customers referenced difficulti­es raising additional money.

“In the end it’s hard to point to one thing that led us to this conclusion. Ultimately timing of recent events in our industry and the impact that had on our funding prospects were not in our favor with the ultimate result being no path forward,” the note said.
