MANHUNT ON AFTER ROOKIE OFFICER SHOT

PA.» An NEW KENINGSTON, intense search continued Saturday for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a rookie police officer.

The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. Friday in New Kensington, about 18 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Officer Brian Shaw, 25, was shot in the chest after a traffic stop involving an SUV led to him chasing someone on foot, authoritie­s said.

Police later recovered an older model of an unoccupied brown Jeep Grand Cherokee, wanted in connection with the shooting. State police said Saturday that investigat­ors know why the suspected shooter was pulled over but would not provide further details, citing the ongoing investigat­ion.

A descriptio­n of the suspect has not been released.

David Cassidy hospitaliz­ed with organ failure.

NEW star David Cassidy has been hospitaliz­ed in Florida with multiple organ failure.

Publicist Joann Geffen said Cassidy is in a Fort Lauderdale-area hospital with liver and kidney failure. Geffen says doctors are hoping to “keep him as well as they can until they can find another liver.”

The 67-year-old former teen idol said earlier this year that he was struggling with memory loss and that he was ending his 50-year career. Cassidy has had numerous personal problems in the decades following his initial success, ranging from substance abuse to bankruptcy.

Restaurant sued in boy’s death. ATLANTA» The family of a 5-year-old boy killed when he became caught in a rotating Atlanta restaurant is suing the company, saying it failed to prevent a “longstandi­ng safety hazard.”

The lawsuit comes after Charlie Holt died in the Sun Dial, a restaurant atop the 73-story Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel.

The child and his parents were visiting Atlanta from North Carolina when he became caught between a wall and table as the dining room rotated April 14.

The video shows the World War II veteran repeatedly calling for help, saying he can’t breathe. It also shows the nurses failing to take life-saving measures and laughing as they try to start an oxygen machine. The family of 89year-old James Dempsey sued the Northeast Atlanta Health and Rehabilita­tion Center in 2014.
