MONAHAN HAS HAT TRICK DURING FLAMES’ OT WIN

PHILADELPH­IA» Sean Monahan had the first hat trick of his NHL career and Michael Frolik scored 1:18 into overtime to give the Flames a 5-4 win over the Flyers.

Johnny Gaudreau added a goal and two assists and extended his points streak to a career-high nine games for the Flames, who won for the sixth time in eight games.

Goaltender Mike Smith turned aside 35 of 39 shots to earn his 10th win for the Flames.

Witkowski won’t appeal. Red Wings forward Luke Witkowski said he will not appeal his 10-game suspension for his actions in Detroit’s brawl with Calgary. Witkowski went after Calgary’s Brett Kulak late in an 8-2 victory. The fight escalated when Witkowski, who had been escorted off the ice by the linesmen, attempted to return to the fray and was jabbed by the stick of Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk. … The Bruins will meet the Blackhawks in the 2019 Winter Classic at Notre Dame.
