RAIDERS FIRE D COORDINATOR
The Raiders relieved Ken Norton Jr. of his defensive coordinator duties.
John Pagano, who joined the Raiders last offseason as assistant coach/defense, will take over defensive playcalling duties.
The move came after the Raiders lost 33-8 to the Patriots on Sunday in Mexico City to fall to 4-6.
Norton has been the Raiders’ defensive coordinator since 2015, when he joined Jack Del Rio’s first Oakland staff. He was the linebackers coach for the Seahawks for four seasons before joining the Raiders.
Freeney waived.
» The Seahawks waived defensive end Dwight Freeney, who recorded three sacks over his first four games with the team.
Seattle signed the 37year-old Freeney last month, adding him to a defensive line rotation that had lost Cliff Avril to injured reserve.
Patriots waive Marsh.
The Patriots waived fourthyear defensive end Cassius Marsh.
On Sept. 2, the Patriots gave up fifth- and seventhround picks for Marsh in a swap with the Seahawks.
Jerry Jones won’t sue.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he will not sue the league over commissioner Roger Goodell’s pending contract extension, but emphasized he still wants “accountability” in the process.
Jones’ remarks came after the NFL’s compensation committee denied his request that the league’s owners be allowed a final vote of approval on Goodell’s extension.
Gordon returns.
Josh Gordon, the receiver who squandered millions in potential earnings and derailed a promising career because of substance abuse, will practice with the Browns on Wednesday for the first time in 14 months — a return that once seemed unimaginable.
