Browns plan to give Gordon “as much as he can handle”

- By The Associated Press

BEREA, OHIO» The Browns are not soft-selling the return of receiver Josh Gordon.

Coach Hue Jackson has already compared having Gordon back to Christmas, and on Monday, Jackson’s eyes lit up over the possibility of Gordon playing Sunday in Carson, Calif., against the Chargers.

“My plans for him? Oh, boy, let me tell you,” Jackson said. “I got big plans for him. I plan for him to play and play as much as he can handle.”

Gordon is returning after being suspended for all of 2015 and 2016. He has not played in a regular-season game since December 2014, and has been suspended for 43 of the Browns’ past 48 games.

The Browns can activate Gordon at any point. Jackson said the team would wait a few days.

“I think he is a very talented player,” Jackson said. “He needs to play, needs to get out there and play, but we have to see where he is and make sure how much can he handle, how much can he do.”

Chancellor faces decision on future.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Kam Chancellor must decide on his future after suffering a season-ending neck injury.

Carroll confirmed Chancellor won’t play again this season and said the star safety faces a decision for 2018 and beyond.

“The future is really again up to Kam,” Carroll said. “He does what he wants to do with that. He’ll tell you what he wants to tell you about it.”

Chancellor has missed Seattle’s past two games after injuring his neck against Arizona in Week 10. ESPN and the NFL Network reported Chancellor was probably headed to injured reserve.

Chancellor, 29, signed a three-year extension over the summer.

Patriots place Bennett on IR.

Tight end Martellus Bennett’s return to the Patriots has ended after two games and 24 snaps. The team announced he was placed on injured reserve.

Bennett had a shoulder injury when the Patriots claimed him on waivers from the Packers on Nov. 9. He had intended to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery when the Packers waived him, but he signed with the Patriots instead.

Injury bug strikes Giants again.

The Giants EAST placed offensive lineman D.J. Fluker (toe), cornerback Donte Deayon (forearm), and linebackers Curtis Grant (knee) and Deontae Skinner (hamstring) on injured reserve, increasing their total of players out for the season to 19. Six of them are linebackers.
