Thefts by porch pirates increasing in Denver.
Porch pirates are busy in Denver, where package thefts have been on the rise over the past three years. Police said Wednesday that 457 package thefts were reported in Denver in 2017 through Dec. 12. That compares with 324 package thefts in all of 2016 and 313 package thefts reported in 2015.
To cut down on porchpirate thefts, police suggest consumers have packages delivered to work or to neighbors who are more likely to be home. Arrangements also can be made to sign for packages; in such cases, deliveries will not be left if no one is home.
Eldora, environmentalists, Boulder County reach accord on expansion.
When the time comes for Eldora to grow outside its current boundaries, the ski area will stretch its alpine and nordic trails south, preserving Middle Boulder Creek and the Hessie-Lost Lake area to the north. The latest expansion plans are a culmination of two years of discussions between the resort and neighbors and environmentalists upset by a proposal that encroached on the Middle Boulder Creek watershed.
Eldora is entering into a formal agreement with Boulder County, the Sierra Club and the Middle Boulder Creek Coalition that will guide future development and preservation of the neighboring wilderness areas. The Boulder County Commissioners are expected to sign off on a statement of principles during a review Monday.
