TRUCK HAULING HUMAN WASTE COLLIDES WITH TWO VEHICLES

» One person WELD COUNTY went to a hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving a semi tanker hauling human waste, an SUV and a truck towing an RV near the intersecti­on of Weld County Roads 74 and 31 north of Greeley on Tuesday afternoon, State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Rob Madden said.

Emergency crews ripped the roof off the mangled tow truck to free people from inside. The semi tanker flipped on its side and leaked its contents onto the road.

Three ambulances transporte­d people to Medical Center of the Rockies.

Suspect in fatal hit-andrun surrenders at sheriff’s office.

COUNTY» A man suspected in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Christmas Day turned himself in to authoritie­s early Tuesday.

Deputies responding to a request for medical assistance of a man lying in the roadway at 8:30 p.m. found the victim on the 11000 block of East Arapahoe Road between Joliet and South Lima streets. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, a man believed to be the driver surrendere­d, the sheriff’s office said.

Runner reaches lifetime goal of 100,000 miles.

A Colorado runner has run in all 50 states and 21 other countries. He has seen more than 16,750 deer, 309 bald eagles, 14 bears, five cougars, four dolphins and 130 alligators.

The Coloradoan reports Kevin Follett on Saturday reached his lifetime goal of running his 100,000th mile. Follett’s wife, three daughters and about two dozen others joined him for a 3-mile leisurely run along the Poudre River Trail near Cache la Poudre Middle School in Laporte.

Inmate assaults deputy at detention center.

Authoritie­s say a sheriff’s deputy was severely beaten by an inmate on Christmas Day.

KRDO-TV reports that inmate James Twiford attacked the deputy as the officer was delivering food to Twiford’s cell at the county detention center.

Twiford was subdued by several other deputies. The deputy, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to a hospital with cuts on his head.

Twiford had been jailed on charges involving robbery and controlled substances and now faces two charges of second-degree assault on a peace officer.

Deputies usually deliver inmate meals through door slots but that the slot to Twiford’s cell wasn’t operating, prompting the deputy to enter the cell.

RIFLE» A Garfield County hospital is making sure those in need of a meal this winter will be fed no matter the weather. The Rifle Citizen Telegram reports Grand River Health’s Meals on Wheels program has delivered its “Blizzard Bags” to shut-in residents.

Blizzard Bags have 48 hours of shelf-stable food and provide meals to Meals on Wheels clients during inclement weather.

The bags have become an annual part of the Meals on Wheels program to better help food anxiety for home-bound clients in the area, especially when the snow hits.
