The University of Colorado will welcome more than 20 new players for the upcoming season.

One of the most important additions is Travon McMillan, who will be asked to fill the void left behind by graduated tailback Phillip Lindsay.

The Virginia Tech graduate transfer announced Saturday his intention to join the Buffs and will be immediately eligible this fall as a senior.

McMillian rushed for 2,153 yards and 16 touchdowns over three seasons at Tech. He also caught seven touchdown passes.

McMillian’s production fell each year after a stellar redshirt freshman season, due in part to scheme changes. He’s a 6-foot, 210-pound runner with a blend of physicality and speed that should fit well within CU’s offensive attack. If McMillian can absorb the Buffs’ playbook quickly, there is every reason to believe he’ll start Week 1 against Colorado State.

The Buffaloes’ reliance on Lindsay, whose school-record 301 carries last season tied for first among all FBS running backs, never allowed for the development of a legitimate backup.

Junior Beau Bisharat was CU’s next option, with 21 carries for 61 yards. The Buffs also return senior Kyle Evans, senior Donovan Lee and redshirt freshman Alex Fontenot and will add 2018 high school signees Jarek Broussard and Deion Smith.

Should quarterback Steven Montez fulfill his potential as a redshirt junior, the Buffs will require a strong rushing presence to help him.

Rams add Bush for player personnel.

Colorado State football coach Mike Bobo continues to raid the SEC for essential staff positions.

CSU hired Daniel Bush as director of player personnel, the school announced Wednesday, to replace Geoff Martzen, who accepted the same position at UCLA last month. Bush comes to Fort Collins after seven combined seasons working in personnel and recruiting departments for SEC programs.

Both of CSU’s coordinator hires, John Jancek (defense) and Dave Johnson (run game), also have strong SEC roots and coached alongside Bobo as assistants at Georgia.
