U.S. GYMNASTS HURD, MOLDAUER EARN GOLD AT THE AMERICA CUP

Morgan Hurd and Yul Moldauer won all-around gold medals Saturday at the America Cup, the first major internatio­nal gymnastics competitio­n of 2018.

Hurd is a 16-year-old high school junior from Middletown, Del. She won her second major internatio­nal all-around title with a consistent performanc­e, outscoring runner-up Mai Murakami of Japan 56.599 to 55.633.

Hurd is 4-foot-5 and wears eyeglasses when she competes because contacts hurt her eyes. She also won gold on the beam and tied for top honors on the floor and bars. She took the all-around at the world championsh­ips in Montreal in October.

“I definitely took a lot away from worlds,” Hurd said. “I definitely feel a lot calmer and I focus on staying in the moment . ... Now coming in a lot more is expected of me but I’m ready for it.”

The 21-year-old Moldauer is the reigning national champion from Norman, Okla. He completed the U.S. sweep, winning the men’s all-around while placing in the top three in all six events to repeat his 2017 America Cup championsh­ip.

FIFA panel adds video review. ZURICH» FIFA’S rule-making panel unanimousl­y approved adding video review to the laws of soccer, clearing the way for its use at the men’s World Cup tournament this summer.

The panel, known as IFAB, voted Saturday to begin updating soccer’s written rules to include video assistant referees (VAR).

FIFA must take a further decision on using VAR at the World Cup in Russia, which kicks off June 14.

Saints acquire free-agent safety.

Saints and free-agent safety Kurt Coleman agreed to the terms of a three-year contract.

The 29-year-old Coleman is an eight-year NFL veteran out of Ohio State who played the past three seasons for the Carolina Panthers.

• Dorne Dibble, a two-way player at Michigan State who was on two Detroit Lions title teams during the 1950s, died at age 88.

Bautista Agut wins second ATP title.

EMIRATES» Roberto DUBAI, UNITED ARAB Bautista Agut of Spain earned his second ATP title of the year when he beat Lucas Pouille of France 6-3, 6-4 in the Dubai Championsh­ips final.

The third-seeded Bautista Agut denied the second-seeded Pouille his own second title this year and a chance to break into the top-10 rankings for the first time.

• Second seed Fabio Fognini of Italy and Nicolas Jarry of Chile will play in the Brazil Open final in São Paulo.

Fognini beat defending champion Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday. Jarry overcame Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4.

Coleman dazzles in 60-meter dash.

BIRMINGHAM, holder Christian Coleman added the championsh­ip record to his growing list of achievemen­ts by winning the 60 meters at the world championsh­ips of indoor track and field.

Coleman smashed Maurice Greene’s 20-year-old world record last month by clocking 6.34 seconds, and he came within 0.03 seconds of that time at Arena Birmingham.

The American, who turns 22 on Tuesday, never looked in danger as he beat Su Bingtian of China by 0.05 and U.S. teammate Ronnie Baker by 0.07.
