Rams are ready to welcome Talib’s craziness

-

Wade’s world. If the Broncos don’t want Aqib Talib, Wade Phillips will take him in Los Angeles to play cornerback for the Rams. Eric, Denver

Kiz: For a clue as to why the Broncos fell to 5-11 in 2017, look no further than Talib. Oh, he can still play cornerback at a Pro Bowl level. But when the Broncos voted him as a captain, they put a joker in charge of the locker room. Skill matters. But leadership does too. Any NFL team can use a little of the poke-’em-in-the-eye craziness that Talib brings to a defense. But few successful NFL teams put that kind of crazy in a position of authority.

Q-tip. If the Broncos get QB Kirk Cousins in free agency, Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson should be our first pick in the NFL draft. Larry, Denver

Kiz: The staff here at Kickin’ It Headquarters would rather crack a cold one than analyze another 37 hours of game video. So maybe we don’t qualify as draftniks. But we know what we like. And our two faves in this NFL draft are Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and the Mighty Q.

No time to waste. The Broncos don’t have the time to draft another quarterback in the first round. We wasted two years of our defensive talent by taking Paxton Lynch. Denver needs to address the offensive line. Get offensive linemen Josh Sitton and Nate Solder, plus Cousins in free agency, then draft Barkley or Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick with the fifth pick overall. Joseph, Billings, Mont.

Kiz: My heart aches for Barkley to slip to the Broncos at No. 5, but my head fears that Cleveland will use one of its two picks in the top four on him.

Money grab. Why is this bum Larry Eustachy $750,000 wealthier on his way out the door as coach at Colorado State, a university supported by taxpayers? Hand him a bag with a burger, fries and a coffee at the bus depot on his way to Palookaville. Willie, representing the 970

Kiz: From the moment CSU hired Eustachy in 2012, it was safe to assume two things: 1) He would win, and 2) It wouldn’t end well. At his best, Eustachy is a basketball genius. At his worst, he’s more likely to erupt in a foamy mess than a roughly shaken can of his beloved Diet Coke. By hiring Eustachy, the Rams got one trip to the Big Dance in six seasons. Was he worth the trouble? Nope.

The good ol’ days. And today’s parting shot is a sweet (if slightly sarcastic) trip down memory lane:

I can remember the days when we were disappointed the Nuggets could not get past the first round of the NBA playoffs. Vaguely remember. But fondly remember. Bill, Littleton
