Sam and Martha Crow had lived all over the country before they settled in Colorado in 1995, in a Denver neighborhood east of the airport freeway. But they’re not crazy about shoveling snow, and last week they set out to find a new low-maintenance replacement home.

Today, Oakwood Homes will show you what they’ve come up with — a roomy patio-ranch design offered on a private island in the fairways of Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.

Oakwood’s single-family Bungalows at age-55-plus Fairway Villas have much of the size and appeal of Oakwood’s previous ranch homes in the age-55-plus neighborhood at Green Valley Ranch, along with something else that they never offered: a maintenance package that covers snow removal and front and side yard landscaping, for an HOA dues initially at around $70 a month.

All the other amenities that have made Fairway Villas such a rapid seller — the clubhouse, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, parks and community garden — are part of the package covered by the community’s metro district tax.

Oakwood’s new island-like site for the Bungalows won’t deliver completed homes until later this year, starting from around $350,000, but the Crows have already seen a completed model nearby and like the way these lay out. They also like the growing access to shopping and other attractions close to Green Valley Ranch — getting lots of prominence now with the arrival of commuter rail and the Gaylord Rockies project.

Oakwood can really deliver one of those Bungalow single-family ranch plans at that $350,000 range, site premium included.

Charles Roberts, who will show you the model today, notes that Oakwood is including numbers of attractive features at the standard price — including softclose drawers and slab-granite tops not just in the kitchen, but the master bath and in the laundry room, if you order the sink-and-cabinet package with that.

Along with Oakwood’s signature energy efficiency, you’ll also get Oakwood’s Home IQ technology — enabling you to check on your thermostat, your irrigation or a visitor to your front door from your smart phone.

Plans range from 1,413 to 1,951 square feet finished, plus a full unfinished basement and a two-car garage on a common cul-de-sac driveway. To put that $350,000 minimum price in perspective, Oakwood sold homes up to $535,000 last year as its final Villas plans disappeared on some golf course sites. (When you visit today, you can tour a final Riviera showhome on the course, 2,485 square feet, listed with its designer landscape and interior trim included, for $480,000. Roberts will also tell you about some revised Villas plans that will be introduced to the same island-like site as the Bungalow plans, later in the year.)

Purchase one of those Bungalow homes (or the Riviera model) now and you can take $4,000 toward closing costs if you use Nest Home Lending and Colorado Insurance.

You’ll see Fairway Villas’ clubhouse and pools, and Green Valley Ranch Golf Club, where Fairway Villas residents get preferred tee times and play a par-3 course for free. Fairway Villas is east of Peña Boulevard at East 56th Avenue. From Peña, take 56th east 1.2 miles (past Tower Road) to Dunkirk, then turn south to 54th Place.
