Siri Lervik has been on a roll lately, but that wasn’t enough to prevent some doubt creeping into her mind as the NCAA skiing championships approached.

“My brain is kind of put together that it’s never good enough,” the sophomore said. “You never know in skiing when you are on the start.”

Lervik managed to push that doubt aside Thursday. She finished second in the women’s nordic classical race to lead a strong performance by CU.

Led by Lervik and Petter Reistad, who was second in the men’s race, the Buffaloes took over the top spot in the team standings at the halfway point of the NCAA championships. With 276 points, the Buffs lead the University of Denver (267). Defending champion Utah (237) is third.

Dartmouth’s Katharine Ogden cruised to the win, crossing the finish line in the 5K race in 14 minutes, 47.2 seconds. Lervik finished in 15:34.1.

CU’s Petra Hyncicova came in as the defending national champion, but finished sixth. She was competing for the Buffs for the first time since the Winter Olympics last month for her home country of the Czech Republic.

Utah’s Martin Bergstrom finished in 27:37.1 to claim the men’s title for the second year in a row, while Reistad was 8.5 seconds behind.

Landry signs franchise tag.

Jarvis Landry is now under contract with the Miami Dolphins, easing the path to a potential trade.

The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver signed his $16 million, oneyear franchise tag, a person familiar with the situation said.

The Dolphins have been shopping Landry, and the procedural move allows them to trade him as early as next Wednesday, when the NFL’s new work year begins.

• The Los Angeles Rams made another addition to their defense, bringing in former Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields.

Shields made 23 interceptions, including playoff games, from 2010-15. He won a Super Bowl with the Packers. But his 2016 season was cut short after one game; he suffered a concussion and didn’t play at all in 2017.

• The Houston Texans signed punter Shane Lechler to a contract extension. An 18-year veteran, Lechler is coming off one of his finest seasons. He led the NFL in punting yards (4,507), finished second in both net punting yards (3,799) and punting average (49.0), and tied for third in total punts (92). He placed 32 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

• The San Francisco 49ers signed wide receiver Marquise Goodwin to a three-year contract extension. Goodwin had a career year in 2017 after signing a two-year deal with San Francisco. The 49ers rewarded him with a new deal that keeps him under contract through the 2021 season.
