The real scandal regarding Russia and the 2016 presidential election

- William Haun, Denver

Re: “Ranking presidential scandals,” March 4 Jonathan Bernstein column.

Jonathan Bernstein asserts, “By any reasonable measure, the Trump-Russia scandal already ranks as the biggest since at least 1986,” referring to the Iran-Contra affair. And then, unbelievably, he states, “Nothing else needs to emerge and none of the unproven allegations need to be confirmed, either.” Really?

Bernstein supports his thesis with the following statements: “Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election.” Hello, Barack Obama was still president in 2016. “The Trump campaign, including the candidate himself, openly welcomed those efforts.” Yes, he jokingly stated he hoped the Russians could find the thousands of missing Hillary Clinton emails.

The Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid Fusion GPS for the Russia-influenced Trump dossier, which was used to obtain FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.

Yes, Robert Mueller has produced indictments on 19 people, 13 of whom are Russian citizens. The other indictments have nothing to do with Russian collusion or long predate the 2016 election.

The only scandal here is the liberal press’ insane obsession with finding Trump-Russia collusion when it is right under their noses: Hillary Clinton and the DNC.
