SPRINGS» Nobody COLORADO claims to have a simple remedy for Garden of the Gods’ summer traffic congestion. But after nearly a year of study and listening to stakeholde­rs, a city-hired consultant recommende­d that people park in 400 spaces to be created in the field by the Garden’s main entrance. Visitors then would be shuttled into the park to relieve traffic and parking congestion from May through September.

Springs police kill fugitive; hostage wounded

in standoff. Colorado Springs police fatally shot a robbery suspect, and a female hostage was injured late Monday night after the man barricaded himself in a motel for several hours.

The woman who was held hostage sustained injuries that were not lifethreat­ening, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the police-involved shooting. The woman’s name has not been released. Authoritie­s have not said how the woman was injured.

Corky Lee Oliver, 31, was later pronounced dead, the news release by sheriff’s office spokeswoma­n Natalie Sosa said. A tipster called police Monday and said Oliver, who was wanted on a robbery warrant, was staying at the Travel Star Motel in the 1700 block of Nevada Avenue, the news release says. Not-guilty plea entered on behalf of teen accused of killing 10-yearold Thornton girl. ADAMS COUNTY» A judge on Tuesday entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of a teenager charged with first-degree murder in the death of 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell.

Aidan Zellmer’s attorney had requested a continuanc­e of his arraignmen­t but the judge entered a plea on his behalf, according to Sue Lindsay, spokeswoma­n for District Attorney Dave Young.

Zellmer’s trial on a charge of first-degree murder of a child under age 12 has been set for Aug. 20. In January, Juvenile Court Judge Priscilla Loew transferre­d Zellmer’s case to adult court, where he will be tried for Campbell’s death.

Kiaya disappeare­d the night of June 7 while walking with the boy on a shopping trip from home in the 12400 block of Forest Drive in Thornton where her father lived with his girlfriend and her two sons.

After an Amber Alert and an intense search involving 23 rescue and law enforcemen­t agencies, her body was discovered the afternoon of the following day in a greenbelt area about 1K miles from where her family reported she had disappeare­d. Body found in detention pond, site of search for missing woman. EVANS» A body was found in a drained detention pond in Evans on Tuesday, in the same area where authoritie­s searched for a missing woman in October. The body found Tuesday was during a “routine check” of an area near the South Platte River, according to a news release. In October a search was made in the same area for a missing woman, Lydia Gutierrez. “It is unconfirme­d at this time if the body found today is that of Mrs. Gutierrez,” police said. The Weld County coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy.

Motorcycli­st, 18, dies in crash with pickup. BRIGHTON» An 18-year-old motorcycle driver died Tuesday in Brighton in a collision with a pickup. The crash happened about 11:50 a.m. at the intersecti­on of Bridge Street and 50th Avenue, according to police. The motorcycle was westbound on Bridge when, making a left turn, it collided with the truck.
