TULO WON’T BE HEALTHY FOR SEASON OPENER

- — The Associated Press

The Blue Jays won’t have shortstop Troy Tulowitzki for opening day as he continues to deal with a bone spur in his right heel.

Tulowitzki has participated in on-field work this spring but has yet to run at full speed.

“I think you can write Tulo off right now,” Manager John Gibbons told reporters. “He’s not ready to play in game action. It wouldn’t be fair to him, either, because he’s going to need to build up and get some at-bats, really test that thing out. Make sure when he comes back, he’s really ready to go.”

The Blue Jays open the season March 29 against the Yankees.

Gonzales roughed up.

Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales left his start Monday night after 1M innings when he was hit on his right wrist by a comebacker off the bat of Leury Garcia of the White Sox. Gonzales threw to first for the out, then departed. Seattle said he suffered a bruise.

The former Rocky Mountain High School ace gave up two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Correa helps Puerto Rico.

Carlos Correa skipped the Astros’ visit to the White House to help arrange for more relief supplies for shipment to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, where he grew up.

“It was not politics or anything,” Correa said. “It was just that the day off was perfect to be able to provide some help for the people in Puerto Rico in need.”
