BARRIE’S POINTS STREAK AT 9 GAMES

- — Mike Chambers, The Denver Post

With an assist on Nathan MacKinnon’s goal in the first period Friday night, Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie extended his points streak to nine games — the NHL’s longest this season among blueliners and tied for first in club history.

Former defensive teammates John-Michael Liles and Kevin Shattenkirk produced ninegame points streaks for the Avs in 2010-11.

Barrie has 18 points (five goals) in his last 12 games, the most by an NHL defenseman since Feb. 20.

MacKinnon’s goal extended his points streak to 11 games, the NHL’s second-longest active streak behind Winnipeg’s Patrik Laine (14). MacKinnon entered Friday leading the NHL in points per game (1.37), and his 86 points were the most in Avalanche history since Joe Sakic had 100 in 2006-07.

Sweet 16.

Goalie Semyon Varlamov started for the Avs, making his 16th consecutive appearance. He was again backed up by rookie Spencer Martin, who is fourth on the organizational depth chart behind Jonathan Bernier and Andrew Hammond, both of whom remain unavailable because of head injuries.

Footnotes.

World Cup and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn attended the game. … Nashville entered Friday with 102 points, most in the league and its highest total in franchise history at this point of the season. The Predators’ all-time record is 110 points, which was set in the 2006-07 season.
