TRUMP PREPARED TO HIT CHINA WITH $60 BILLION IN TARIFFS

- — Denver Post wire services

WASHINGTON» Senior aides had presented President Donald Trump with a package of $30 billion in annual tariffs that would apply to a range of Chinese products, but Trump has directed them to approximately double the scope of the new restrictions, four senior administration officials said.

The situation remains fluid, and Trump has shown a tendency to back off economic threats at the last minute. In recent weeks, however, he has shown a willingness to unilaterally impose tariffs — even amid objections from advisers who fear starting a global trade war. And several administration officials said Trump was particularly determined to follow through on this specific set of tariffs, because criticism of U.S.-China relations was at the center of his presidential campaign.

The lawyers are worried that Trump, who has a penchant for making erroneous claims, would be vulnerable in an hours-long interview.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Marquise Rashaad Hepburn, who was suffered spinal injuries as he rode a bicycle under the bridge as it collapsed last week. The lawsuit said a car swerving to avoid the falling concrete struck Hepburn.

Also, Munilla Construction Management, the construction firm behind the pedestrian bridge, has deleted its Twitter account. The company’s Facebook and Instagram pages also have been deleted.
