GOP APPOINTS ALEX WINKLER

Republican­s chose Alex Winkler on Friday night as the replacemen­t for expelled ex-Colorado Rep. Steve Lebsock after he made a last-minute party switch before being ousted from the statehouse earlier this month.

Winkler was already running in the November election as a Republican for the House District 34 seat that Lebsock, a former Democrat, was set to vacate as he ran for Colorado treasurer.

Winkler won with 12 votes to Casey Cole’s 11 at a Republican House District 34 vacancy committee meeting Friday in Northglenn.

Woman sues Burrito Delight.

A Broomfield woman who became sick after eating a taco at Burrito Delight has sued the company, which shut down locations in Dacono and Fort Lupton while public health officials investigat­e a salmonella outbreak linked to its food.

Marler Clark, a Seattlebas­ed law firm that specialize­s in food safety law, on March 12 filed a lawsuit in Weld County. Dawn Malek is named as the plaintiff.

Weld County public health officials reported 37 confirmed cases of salmonella in six Colorado counties that they believe is linked to food made by Burrito Delight.

Inmate who orchestrat­ed $2.2 million tax scam pleads guilty.

A 36-yearold Aurora man has pleaded guilty to felony charges in a tax-fraud scheme in which he, his mother and girlfriend filed 100 false income tax returns while he was locked up in prison.

Jaquon H. Mucsarney entered guilty pleas in U.S. District Court in Denver to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and aggravated identity theft, U.S. Attorney Robert Troyer said in a news release Friday. He is scheduled to be sentenced in June.

Broomfield man charged with sex assault.

A 43year-old man has been charged with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 79-year-old Broomfield woman, authoritie­s say.

McMillian has been charged with sexual assault on an at-risk adult, sexual assault armed with a knife, sexual assault with force, first degree assault causing injury with a knife and felony menacing, according to a news release from Sue Lindsay, spokeswoma­n for District Attorney Dave Young.

McMillian allegedly stabbed and sexually asDonald saulted the woman while she was walking her dog at the edge of Country Vista Park in Broomfield.

He’s being held on a $300,000 bond.
