Over and Under

- — Dylan Owens

One big show, one smaller “Good sound comes back around.” Dan Auerbach’s (of The Black Keys’) motto — and title of a limited-run album he put out in 2017 — is a fitting one for his latest tour. It sees him accompanied by what he’s calling The Easy Eye Sound Revue, a roster of veterans including keyboardist Bobby Wood, who has played on John Prine’s debut album and in Elvis’ band, and Gene Chrisman (the drummer on “Son of A Preacher Man”). Auerbach’s latest album, the Motown-invoking “Waiting on a Song,” is worthy of its enviable sessions players. He’ll focus on that release when he plays Denver’s Paramount Theatre April 5. He’s even got modern blues legend Robert Finley opening for him. Tickets: $25-$55, via altitudetickets.com. When you slap on headphones for “Freedom’s Goblin,” the latest album from the crooked pen of prolific freak-out rocker Ty Segall, it’s a bit like wandering into a rumble backstage at the original Woodstock festival. The specters of rock ’n’ roll’s past roil spectacularly on the double disc: The ecstasy of “Every 1’s a Winner,” the anxiety of “Main Pretender,” the emotional dyspepsia of “Meaning” — all these symptoms might add up to something sinister on WebMD, but here, they’re a sign of an artist at the peak of his powers. Catch Segall on April 5 at the Ogden Theatre. If you like sweaty rock shows, this one is not to be missed, as Denver rabble-rousers Dirty Few will perform in support. Tickets are $25 via axs.com.
