CHINESE SPACE LAB PLUNGES TO EARTH

» Chinese space authoritie­s BEIJING say the defunct Tiangong 1 space station mostly burned up on re-entry into the atmosphere over the central South Pacific.

The China Manned Space Engineerin­g Office said the experiment­al space laboratory re-entered around 8:15 a.m. Monday (6:15 p.m. MDT on Sunday). Analysis from the Beijing Aerospace Control Center showed it had mostly burned up.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will get $4.1 million.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame says it will receive $4.1 million over five years to help expand its youth education programs and community activities.

The Rock Hall announced last week that PNC Bank has pledged $3.75 million to support various programmin­g such as free events and live music. The PNC Foundation pledged an additional $375,000 to help underwrite the youth education program Toddler Rock.

Two-day strike by French workers to disrupt train service.

PARIS» France’s national train company is warning that a workers’ strike will disrupt train service within France and elsewhere in Europe on Tuesday and Wednesday. Four labor unions have called on rail workers to strike for two days every week until the end of June.

Four wounded in “running gunbattle” on highway.

N.C.» Authoritie­s say SHELBY, four men suffered gunshot wounds in a “running gunbattle” while driving on a highway. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office said shots were fired between the occupants of two vehicles around 2:15 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 74 near Kings Mountain.

One vehicle carrying three wounded men ended up stopped in the eastbound lane, and the other left the scene. The four men who got shot were treated at hospitals for wounds that did not appear to be life-threatenin­g. All are in their mid- to late 20s.

Sheriff Alan Norman called it an “incredibly stupid incident with so much potential danger to innocent people.” The participan­ts were not cooperatin­g with investigat­ors.

White House criticized over mix of interns.

The White House released a photo Friday of its spring 2018 interns — and the internet quickly noted a lack of people of color.

One reaction on Twitter: “I missed the fall intern photo, but last summer and this spring, the White House had a combined 206 interns. Among them: 3 black men. 0 black women. Out of 206.”

Another person tweeted: “The White House intern photo is like a Where’s Waldo for a non-white person-in a country that is about 40% nonwhite.”

On the other hand, it is possible that people of color weren’t eager to sign up to work in President Donald Trump’s White House. Some of the president’s lowest approval marks come from people of color and millennial­s, according to Gallup.

Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” tops holiday box office.

Steven Spielberg has found his way back to the top of the box office with the action-adventure “Ready Player One,” while Tyler Perry has scored again with “Acrimony.”

Studio estimates on Sunday say Spielberg’s virtual realityfoc­used film earned a solid $53.2 million in its first four days in theaters from 4,234 locations since opening Wednesday night, with $41.2 million of that coming from the three-day weekend.

“Tyler Perry’s Acrimony” took second place. The film starring Taraji P. Henson grossed $17.1 million during the three-day weekend.
