POLICE SAY DISAPPEARA­NCE OF WOMAN IS SUSPICIOUS

LONGMONT» Police are now calling the disappeara­nce of Rita Gutierrez-Garcia suspicious, according to a Monday post on the Longmont Fire, Police and OEM Facebook page.

Gutierrez-Garcia, 34, was last seen about 2:30 a.m. March 18 walking to a parking lot behind 3’s Bar at 333 Main St. in downtown Longmont after celebratin­g St. Patrick’s Day with friends and family.

The Longmont Police Department asks for home or business surveillan­ce video that may show Gutierrez-Garcia walking alone, with another person or getting into someone’s car between 2:15 and 3:45 a.m. March 18.

Gutierrez-Garcia, a mother of three, has been missing for two weeks and hasn’t contacted her family, which is uncharacte­ristic, police said.

Woman, 33, dies in crash of SUV.

33-year-old woman died early Wednesday when she was thrown from a vehicle that crashed, police said.

A police officer on patrol about 2:45 a.m. near Northwest Parkway and Sheridan Boulevard came across a Chevrolet Trailblaze­r in a ditch, according to a news release. The officer approached the SUV and found a woman about 20 feet from the Chevy.

North Metro Fire Rescue District responded and determined that the woman had died, police said.

The name of the victim was not released.

Mine lawsuit to be transferre­d from Utah to New Mexico.

panel of federal judges says Utah’s lawsuit over a mine waste spill will be transferre­d from a Salt Lake City court to one in New Mexico, where three similar lawsuits were filed.

The lawsuits seek unspecifie­d damages from the EPA, government contractor­s and a mining company over a 2015 spill at the Gold King Mine in Colorado.

An EPA-supervised contractor crew inadverten­tly triggered the spill, which polluted rivers in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.

The other lawsuits were filed by New Mexico, the Navajo Nation and seven residents of Aztec, N.M.

I-25 paving through Tech Center to continue through end of year.

Drivers using Interstate 25 through the Denver Tech Center may experience delays during overnight hours, as crews resurface the highway between Belleview Avenue and C-470.

Work on the 5-mile segment began this week and will continue through the end of the year. Work hours will be from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and motorists should expect various lane closures on northbound and southbound I-25 as the project proceeds.

A speed reduction to 55 mph will be in place during work hours.

Stabbed officer released from hospital.

Police Officer Justin Bethel has been released from a hospital and is recovering after being stabbed in the neck by an assailant who stole his patrol car Tuesday.

Rocky Ford police said 21-year-old Shyanne Maestas was arrested Tuesday night by the State Patrol about 25 miles south of town.

A police affidavit says Bethel was stabbed Tuesday afternoon while conducting a welfare check at a home.

The affidavit said Maestas yelled at the injured officer about what he was going to do as he retreated. She was found hours later in Bethel’s marked cruiser.
