SCHOOL SHOOTING THREAT MADE ON PLAYER’S INSTAGRAM

BOSTON» A social media message to New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman led police to a teenager who posted a threat about shooting up his school.

The New York Times reported Edelman received a message from a concerned Instagram follower late last month who told him about the threat to “shoot up” a school in the comments section of his account.

Edelman notified his assistant, Shannen Moen, who called police and they tracked down a 14-year-old boy in Michigan who admitted to posting the threat about his middle school.

Police officials said the boy was charged with making a false report of a threat of terrorism.

Edelman called the man who tipped him off “the real hero” and said he plans to send him a gift.

Jayhawks’ Newman turns pro.

KAN.» Malik Newman LAWRENCE, plans to leave Kansas and enter the NBA draft after leading the Jayhawks to the Final Four in his only season playing for them.

The sophomore guard said he plans to sign with an agent.

Newman sat out the 2016-17 season after transferri­ng from Mississipp­i State and started 33 of 39 games this season, earning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors. He was at his best in the postseason, averaging 24 points in the Big 12 Tournament and 21.6 in the NCAA Tournament, including a career-high 32 points in the overtime victory over Duke in the Midwest Region final.

He was voted the Most Outstandin­g Player of both the conference tournament and the regional.

• Miami Hurricanes freshman guard Lonnie Walker IV says he’ll turn pro this year, a move anticipate­d even before his college career began.

Walker became the first freshman to lead the Hurricanes in scoring since 2001. He averaged 11.5 points while shooting 42 percent, and averaged 13.6 points in Atlantic Coast Conference games.

• Duke freshman Trevon Duval is entering the NBA draft and the point guard plans to hire an agent.

Duval’s 207 assists were the fourth most by a Duke freshman, and he had four games with at least 10 assists. He also averaged 10.3 points.

• Penny Hardaway will soon have a familiar face on his Memphis basketball team: Jayden Hardaway, the coach’s son. Jayden is Penny’s first class of 2018 recruit.

Djokovic splits from two coaches.

Novak Djokovic is done working with Andre Agassi and Radek Stepanek after the latest in a series of coaching changes for the 12-time major champion who has gone nearly two full years without winning a Grand Slam title.

Djokovic announced on his website he split from Agassi after less than a year and from Stepanek after less than six months. The 30-year-old Serb has lost his past three matches.

Bantamweig­ht rematch at UFC 227.

According to a report from ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto, the UFC soon will announce a bantamweig­ht title rematch between champion T.J. Dillashaw (15-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) and former champ Cody Garbrandt (11-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC). The fight will take place at UFC 227 in Los Angeles.

QB Hilinski to South Carolina.

Class of 2019 quarterbac­k Ryan Hilinski committed to South Carolina.

He is the younger brother of former Washington State Cougars quarterbac­k Tyler Hilinski, who was found dead in January after taking his own life.

Cardinals activate Wainwright.

MILWAUKEE» The St. Louis Cardinals plan to activate right-hander Adam Wainwright from the 10-day disabled list on Thursday to start their home opener against the Arizona Diamondbac­ks.

• The Padres have placed outfielder Wil Myers on the 10-day disabled list with nerve irritation in his right arm. — The Associated Press
